Fresh-brewed Life by Nicole Johnson, a book review

A Stirring Invitation to Wake Up Your Soul
I received a copy of this book to review in October and though I skimmed it, I didn’t have a chance to really get into it until just recently. The book is actually a revision from the popular book of the same title written in 1999. This revision contains more chapters and a study guide to help the reader explore the concepts of the book more fully.
Fresh-brewed Life is touted as a ”stirring invitation to wake up your soul” and that’s a pretty strong claim. I can’t honestly say that I read anything that stirred my soul. It does however, offer a lot of insight based on the author’s life on ways to start having a closer, more real relationship with God.
I especially found the led journal portions to be helpful as I sometimes struggle with writing in a journal, though I do think daily journal writing to be a good thing. I also identified with the author’s philosophy that, like coffee beans, parts of our lives must sometimes be crushed in order to make a new, better product. Nicole Johnson comes across as a friendly, energetic and understanding voice and I really wanted to get into this book as well as the journey which Nicole is inviting us to.
The only problem was that I couldn't The book just didn’t inspire me enough to dive into those parts of my life that need diving into right now. A Fresh-brewed Life wants us to awaken ourselves in three specific areas, areas that are important to functioning as a complete human and a Christian. It wants us to wake up our relationship with Christ, with ourselves and with others. I was on board with wanting that too... but it didn’t happen for me.
I want to say that this is probably all me. I am not a fan of self help books, I never have been. I feel like if this book sounds interesting to you and if you get something from self help books in general, then you should definitely check it out. I read the entire book and that says something- I have never been able to read through an entire book of this genre. It says something about Nicole Johnson’s charm and wit that I was able to keep reading this one, even long after I knew it probably wasn’t for me. (The book will be passed on to my self-help loving sister who will eat this read up with relish, I have no doubt.)
Disclosure: A copy of this book was provided to me without charge by Booksneeze.com. A positive review was not required. All opinions are solely mine.

A very fair and balanced review. You pointed out the book's strengths, admitted your personal inclinations and left it up to the individual reader to decid. Nice work. :)
